WORLDS END MOUNTAIN HAT

 This distinctive hat, designed by Vivienne Westwood, represents a significant part of music history—particularly hip-hop—through its connection to Vivienne Westwood's partner at the time, Malcolm McLaren.

While touring the States with Bow Wow Wow in 1981, Malcolm McLaren discovered the block parties organized by Afrika Bambaataa and the Zulu Nation.

In New York, he witnessed the scratching technique and the DJs' work on the turntables for the first time.

Back in London, he decided to produce his own album, combining scratching, world music influences, and his own unique vision of hip-hop. The first track on Duck Rock is titled "Buffalo Gals" and remains one of the most influential songs in the history of hip-hop.

Amidst all this, the famous hat designed with his partner Vivienne Westwood for their aptly named "Buffalo Girls" collection—a hat Malcolm would hardly ever take off while promoting that album.

As a tribute to this musical era and to Malcolm McLaren and the World's Supreme Team, Pharrell Williams wore this very hat at the 2014 Grammy Awards. 

And now, in 2026, I will pay tribute to the mountain hat by giving it a modern comeback.

By the way... Does anyone remember the little leather pouch that was left over after the Tartan kilt purse makeover ? It also has a place in this autumnal outfit.
