OOTD: Style the Colour Palette of a graffiti Art
Black is black is black is black... and it’s my favorite color. But even though black embodies Gothic and Punk culture, I'm reluctant to be pigeonholed into just one box (or color).
Bands, idols, movies, brands, or art forms can shape alternative clothing styles—but the important thing is that we remain creative and have fun!
Colorful graffiti and urban art are also an important part of many subcultures, so today I’d like to put together an outfit including the color palette of this street art.
When putting together an outfit, I often start with jewellery that might match – accessories that harmonize in color. These also reflect the aesthetic of the New Wave era of the 1980s.
Many pieces from Vivienne Westwood collections feature these specific summer colors, and when I was searching for inspiration on my phone, I came across this lovely illustration by @moss.ren on Instagram. The drawing perfectly captures the essence of Vivienne and fits the aesthetic of this blog post perfectly.
My Cindy bag is crafted from blue and pink printed recycled mesh with a saffiano leather trim and detachable curb chain shoulder strap. It is very lightweight due to the material, which is why it is one of my favorite summer bags.
As you might expect, however, I don't actually have many colorful items of clothing in my wardrobe. That said, I do own three fringed, asymmetrical tulle skirts—one of which is purple, black, and petrol blue. Perfect for my look.
I want to pair my blue graphic shirt with the red star with the skirt. The Red Star print in the 1980s represented a bold, graphic aesthetic that transcended various subcultures, ranging from New Wave to Underground Punk and Grunge movements.
For the layered look, I’d normally wear a mesh shirt under the graphic tee, but it’s June/July of the infamous heatwave year of 2026, so mesh arm sleeves will just have to do.
And I have to admit it: even though the heat made it take ages to finish this blog post, the editing was actually damn fun, and I’m happy with the result.
