DIY Vivienne Westwood Beach Towel Trousers
Naturally, I could hardly believe my luck when I managed to snag the last Vivienne Westwood beach towel. And just as I knew exactly how I would style it at the beach, it was equally clear to me that this towel wasn't meant solely for the beach.
In fact, it was the generous dimensions of 200 cm by 100 cm that gave me this idea in the first place: Providence had ordained that Vivienne's beach towel was to become a pair of trousers.
Vivienne Westwood has repeatedly designed loose harem pants in her collections over the years, and I want to make a pair out of the beautiful towel without having to cut it up. So, I got hold of genuine leather kilt straps, leather sewing needles, and heavy-duty thread.
Instead of leather kilt straps, you could also just sew simple ribbons onto the edges of the towel—which was actually my first thought—but I found the buckles more interesting; they add that certain punk-ish touch.
We want to fasten the top corners around the back of the waist using the the ribbons, and secure the bottom two corners of the towel at the front with the straps.
With a width of one meter, there shouldn't be any problem wearing the trousers at either the waist or the hips; you just need to measure the distance to adjust the straps and ribbons accordingly.
Woo! I think the trousers look really nice, and the effort involved was comparatively low.
What do you guys think?
