Brat🔹 by Gabriel Smith (2024).

| BRAT▫️A Ghost Story |
Admittedly the title and the book cover are a bit misleading; rather than a horror story, Smith's first book is a clever modern gothic novel about love, mental health, and creativity.
We accompany main character Gabriel through his parents house, the end of a romantic relationship, the grief over the loss of his father, coming of age angst, and family secrets.
Smith uses an interesting narrative style, but for those not expecting a typical horror story, Brat is a strange and pretty funny fiction where chaos and confusion are portrayed with humor as we gradually peel away the layers of skin and narrative.
Brat is a perfect reading for a dark autumn evening. The book will certainly stay with me for a while and deserves a second read in the near future.
