I have to admit, I find it somewhat astonishing, but also totally cool, that there are still people of all generations keeping the 1980s alive in 2025. Many of them were born decades later, but respect! The fashion, the hairstyles, and of course, the makeup, are still perfectly staged today!

Sadly, every year more and more icons of this era leave us; others are enjoying their third age in seclusion, while a few are still active here and there.

What we are sure to retain is their legacy, pressed into grooves, lasered onto discs, and immortalized in  numerous photos, documentaries, videos, and films.

And fortunately, there is also “New Women in Rock,” whose pictures and short biographies take us on a nostalgic journey with a bunch of wild rock ladies from the 1980s.

Rock music of the Seventies proved if anything, that women could rock 'n' roll as well as any of their male counterparts. The punk explosion of 1977 brought a sudden influx of outstanding women into rock. Poly Styrene, Nina Hagen, Lydia Lunch are just a few who sang and played their way into the charts - and sold records by the million. At the same time, singer-songwriters like Joan Armatrading and Kate Bush took a more "traditional" approach, though with a distinctly new wave stance.
<<New Women In Rock» chronicles the lives, careers and achievements of more than seventy women who have made their mark in the world of rock.
It is written by twelve of the most respected rock journalists writing today¹. The text is backed up throughout with vivid colour and black & white photographs.
To make this book even more valuable to fan and rock historian alike, complete disco-graphies of all the artists are included.
