Generation X - Sweet Revenge
Generation X, later called Gen X, was the London Punk band with which Billy Idol began his career in 1976. They made their debut in the same year, released their first single in 1977 and their first album in 1978. Unfortunately they disbanded in 1981 before the release of their third album “Sweet Revenge”.
In contrast to the untitled debut from 1978 and the follow-up “Valley Of The Dolls” from 1979, it took until 1998 for “Sweet Revenge” to be officially release. The recordings were made shortly before the Japan tour in June 1979, as they are published today by Munster Records.
At that time, however, it was still under the title “K.M.D. – Sweet Revenge”.
Guitarist Bob “Derwood” Andrews had left the band shortly after the recordings and lugged the tapes around with him for years until he finally digitized them.
The band continued without him at that time, renamed themselves GEN X and released the final album “Kiss Me Deadly” in 1981. “Sweet Revenge” may sound a bit “naked” at times - Andrews writes in the liner notes, that the recordings are “almost complete minus a few guitar solos and final mixes”, but that does not detract from the listening pleasure.
