Tartan

It's raining and it's cold! Up here, it usually means that it's going to snow!! I hope not!!

Tartan is definitely a fashion statement in winter. The woollen fabric as well as the multiple colours and various designs of the scarfs and kilts, keeps you warm in a stylish not too mainstream way.

The red Royal Stewart tartan is my favourite though. I dedicated a page on my "Get dressed with Modern Modette" blog, but I never mentioned this gorgeous Highlands fabric ever since.. I own tartan scarfs,  purses, accessories, and of course a blazer. But I would love to buy a kilt. Not a school mini skirt, but an original Scottish kilt. I'm willing to pay the price for quality, but first I wanted to dig into the story of tartan, and how it was introduced into punk fashion.

As the 1960s came to a close and hippie culture was on its way out, punk came into style. Designer Vivienne Westwood featured torn-up Royal Stewart tartan in her designs, as a symbolic middle finger to British Society.
During the punk movement in 1970s London and New York City the bright red Royal Stuart tartan was a symbol of upper crust, genteel England. Punks wanted to incite a reaction from those members of society, so they took that fabric and cut it, shredded it, ruined it. The biggest bands of early punk—The Clash and the Sex Pistols—embraced her tattered take on tartan.
I love the head to toes tartan look, especially with the well known tartan zip jeans, but my looks have to work on a daily basis, and I would find myself just overdressed.

I own Docs and various lace boots, but I I'm thinking about to combine the kilt with my red or black Patent leather boots.
I will keep you updated and of course post about the result..

Oh My..

I'm completely obsessed!
Sure, I've seen "Braveheart", "Maria Stewart", and "Rob Roy", but the story of Scotland is widely unknown to me 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

When ever I decide to add a new piece to my garderobe, especially a more expensive one, not only I check how I can combine it to the pieces I already have, I also want to know about its history and roots if there is any.
Sure, I knew about the different clans and their colours - with no deeper information or knowledge - but it's a topic that makes me very curious.
Btw, I think that I've found the perfect cashmere woman kilt!
